I've never fostered or adopted before, where do I start?Firstly, congratulations on taking your first step! Rescuing an animal is a beautiful and fulfilling experience, and we're here to help you every step of the way! Being informed is incredibly important. And also knowing how you want the dog to fit into your lifestyle is equally as important, and may be a determining factor for size, breed, and age. Our foster carers have first option to adopt their foster pet so that is a really great way to start your journey with us. Send us as email to start the conversation with us. MORE INFO

I'd love to adopt a dog of a specific breed. Is there a waitlist I can be added to?Due to being a small team of volunteers, and due to the number of applications we receive on a daily basis, we are unable to keep a waitlist for dogs of a specific breed. We are however very active on our social media, where you can continue to check to view available rescues and submit an application when you see a dog you would like to adopt and is suitable for your lifestyle.
-
I need to re-home my dog. Can The Yellow Door Rescue accept them?We take in owner surrenders on a case-by-case basis. However in the last few years we have been inundated with requests and simply don’t have the resources to help everyone. If you are looking to rehome your dog, please send us a detailed email with as much information on the dog as you can provide, including any and all medical records and some photos. We will get back to you as to whether we can assist or with recommendations of other rescues to try and reach out to.
-
Does it cost to adopt a dog?Our dogs are not for “sale” as we are a DGR registered Not-For-Profit Rescue. Our adoption fees help cover the cost of the care, veterinary & medical treatments our dogs receive. Fees vary based on age, temperament and health status of the dogs. Each adoption fee covers the dog’s desexing procedure, microchip, and current vaccinations. The adoption fees help to cover the medical costs of some of the more complex medical cases that we provide for and ensure they get the care they need to heal and find their new family too.

I found a dog that I'd like to meet, what do I do next?Yay! The next step is to simply fill out a our form here and submit it for our team to review!
-
I've submitted my adoption application, what's next?Once your application is submitted, it typically takes a few days for our foster carers and volunteers to review your application. Please allow 3 - 7 working days for us to respond.
-
What's the adoption process?Find a furry friend you adore Enquire with an Expression of Interest form, and hit submit! Once reviewed, if the case manager feels like it's a good fit we'll co-ordinate a no-obligation meet & greet to introduce you to each other. We then offer adoption trials, whereby you have 3 weeks to settle in, and our behaviouralist is available for assistance during this time. Fingers crossed, your adopted animal is now part of your life, and found it's forever home! And we’re always here to offer help and guidance for you and your newest addition to the family.
-
Why do the dogs in your care need foster homes? At The Yellow Door Rescue, we're currently looking for our own forever home, a sanctuary for our rescued friends. As such, we do not have a shelter and rely on our community to aid our cause. To save the lives of rescue dogs, foster carers play a pivotal role in helping to care for them in their own homes.
-
What's the role of a foster carer?Foster carers look after a carefully matched animal in their home temporarily while we all work together to find them a forever home. This can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months. Should you get attached to your foster friend and want to adopt them, that’s okay! Fostering is a great way to test whether animal ownership is for you, and adopting your foster friend is certainly an option. You may very well join the growing ‘Foster Fail’ Club!

What are some of the requirements to be eligible for fostering?Security: A clean, safe and secure home where your foster animal will sleep inside and receive lots of love. Exercise: Fit & willing to play and complete regular exercise. Interaction and stimulation with toys, games and basic training is also important. Transport: Ability for occasional transport i.e. collection to/from vet appointments. Food: A good quality diet is important for foster animals. Food donations are often available, but not always. Love: Patience, care and a loving enviornment is paramount.

How do donations help? We're a 100% volunteer run organisation which means that all donations go directly back into the organisation to cover the care of our foster animals. We receive no funding from the government or councils so we rely on fundraising and adoption fees to cover the veterinary care and husbandry of the animals in our care. We accept donations of food, equipment and supplies as well as financial contributions. All financial contributions over $2 are tax deductible as we are a registered charity that has been approved as a Tax Deductible Gift Recipient with the ATO. If you wish to donate to our cause you can do so via the "Donate" drop down at the top of the page or email us for a location to drop physical goods to.
